A Study That Was Not There Before
Both of them were on calls most of the day, and the flat had two bedrooms with the second one already committed. For a year they had been alternating, one at the dining table, one on the bed, taking it in turns to be the person who had to mute and leave the room.
We took five feet by seven out of the main bedroom, which was larger than it needed to be, and made it a genuine room: a stud partition with insulation in the cavity, its own door rather than a curtain, a fold-down desk, and a small return-air vent so it does not become an oven by eleven. The bedroom is now ordinary-sized and the household has stopped negotiating over who gets the table.
